I have not seen any threads about this topic so i thought it might be sort of fun! what you see here is a so called dollar.. USS Maine
I paid 35 dollars at a fall Denver coin show in 2009 and added it in a foreign submission for kicks more than any other reason. How can a guy go wrong?
Wow.. i really like that.. i have lots of tokens and such but that is really beautiful. What caught my eye with Maine is thats the ship that started the Spanish, American war.. Anddd where pretty scarce. Like your shooting medal not many were made.
Here are a few of my civil war tokens. The Little Monitor is a NGC MS 65 RB and one of the finest I have ever seen. A sticker on the back of the slab shows it traveled through Eagle Eye Rare Coins, and I like to know that Mr. Snow handled the piece. I just had to have it and it started a small collection of gem CWTs. I'm not out to get a whole bunch but I will certainly keep an eye out for super cool ones in anything over an MS 64. The Washington piece appealed to me with the shaking hands reverse and overall eye appeal for such a crude coin.
Two more from the group. CWT are a relatively inexpensive way to keep a small cent collection fun and fresh. Although I love Flying Eagle, Indians and Lincoln cents, CWTs spice it up a bit and fall in line with why I like small copper. And it is unlikely I will ever see all of them in my lifetime and that keeps it interesting.
This is my last one in the group. I only have 5 at the moment, but I think it is a nice group. Nothing rare, just really well preserved. So lets see some of yours!:smile
Rope; I love your so-called dollar. Do you have a pic of the reverse? Do you have others you can post pics of? Coppermania; Beautiful CWT's. I had a high grade collection of them until I sold out several years ago, so yours bring back fond memories. The monitor really is nice. Bruce
