I'm curious what your favorite resources are for the Jefferson Nickel series pertaining to errors/varieties and identification of them. What have you found to be the most comprehensive resource on the subject??
The Jefferson Nickel RPM Book was suggested by Jody in another posting... I have ordered a copy but it has not yet arrived... Additionally are there online resources that you have found helpful or interesting? I'm just trying to expand my knowledge on what I'm collecting, for years I've been going on nothing other than... oooooh that looks _________ . (fill in the blank... Cool, interesting, different...ETC) So yea, basically I guess I just want a complete nickel education!
Hello, These are the books that I use most often for Jefferson nickel reference.... Doug has a great section with links to error and variety websites. You can check it out by clicking here. Not a lot of good Jefferson nickel websites available, now that Jason Taylor's site is down. Doug has some nickel links here. One of my favorite nickel variety links can be seen here. Good luck, and enjoy your Jefferson nickels. They've been a joy to me for many years.
All the books Jody has in his post are excellent reference books, and in my opinion the JEFFERSON NICKEL ANALYST is the Bible for the Jeffersons. Bruce.
So I was highly disapointed today when my book arrived! " The Jefferson Nickel RPM Book" That is.... The seller sent me "The Jefferson RPM Book Update: 2001-2002 " With a note "Sorry we ran out of the first eddition, please accept this as our humble apology" So I got the update version which has a few pages of extra varieties listed that didn't make the main publication. Sheesh... Humble apology, yea right, kept my money and sent an inferior product.. Made out like bandits... Not to say it won't be useful, but its not what I wanted at this point in time. Ok I'm done with my rant, I'll have to start looking for it again, as well as a copy of the JEFFERSON NICKEL ANALYST that was suggested! Thanks! DAK
i would return the book, or tell them you will post negative feedback.. also if they wont work with you, report them to Ebay as the product was NOT what you purchased... actually.. was the seller on Ebay?
Nope, not ebay, Amazon ... Anyway.. I have ordered a couple other referance books this last week so hopefully in a week or so, I'll be a little more self sufficient in identifing my varieties... Thanks again folks,
DAK. I must say I was a little disapointed when I got the Jefferson nickel doubled die varieties 2nd edition, I still think the nickel analyst is the best reference book out there to date. Bruce.
Yep, the Nickel Analyst, and the Redbook of Buffalo & Jefferson Nickels were ordered, along with a couple others. I am eagerly awaiting those two referances.
I went to your favorite site WOW..there is no way I would ever spot errors on a coin unless they were jumping up and down holding a neon ERROR sign..lol Dak..did you get your books yet?
I don't think so. I think I am going to try submitting it to Coin World... I think there is potential in this neckless variety as interest in the Jefferson Nickels increases. An error like that just takes a little publicity and next thing ya know, its accepted as a variety... I think I should get to name it like that Pam chick who discovered the speared bison!!! ! hehehe... I will be signing autographs left and right ... Ok maybe not... but a guy can dream!
I've found all of the books listed above---BUT one....The Nickel RPM book by James Wiles. He doesn't have any more and neither does ebay. I guess I'll just keep on watching and hopefuly find one soon. Speedy
I found one here: http://www.stantonbooks.com/special_offers.htm but JT Stanton has lost his mind, he wants $226 for it.
I found that Ken Potter also has a few copies---or at least he did....he doesn't update CONECA's site enough as he said that Mr Wiles still had them for sale. But Ken wants $55 for it. I think I may be able to find it on ebay sometime soon. Speedy
