I was flipping through my red book the other night looking for a commemorative that I might try to find at the Baltimore show this July. I realized, I knew hardly anything about them. I didn't have a favorite until I flipped to the Texas Centennial. Wow. What a gorgeous coin. I'm definately going to be on the hunt for one this summer. Anyone have a favorite?

There are four designs that I really love, but don't own yet... Connecticut (because that is where I am originally from), Lynchburg, VA (that is where I went to college), Bridgeport, CT (just because it is CT related) and Roanoke Island (both because I used to live in Roanoke (VA not NC) and because I love the history of the island).

    DIDO!

I just love these commemoratives. There something about the Oregon Trail. It truly moves me. Specially toned ones like this.

Walter's Oregon Trail Half is just about the prettiest around IMHO... :)

Yeah - too bad they painted it on.

Thanks Bone, but in all honesty I don't own that coin. Its just a picture of one I wish I could afford. Because if I did have that kind of money to spend, it would be mine, oh yes, it would be mine!!!

No problem, painted or not I still love the look. Can't explain it 100%, but its much more then just a desire to have one.

    Good one though!

This is the coin that caused all the fuss a few years back. No it's not mine.
I can't remember but I'm thinking it sold for something like 50K.

Oh well, it's a beauty never-the-less and we've all got coins we'd love to own but can't quite afford...

Thats a beauty. If it is a NT coin or not it is still breath taking, just breath taking.

You know it almost looks unreal.

    Thanks for sharing.

My all time favorite is the Oregon Trail. Both Obverse and Reverse are stunning designs.
    Closely following is the Connecticut.
In third place is a three way tie for the Pan Pac Obverse, Monroe Reverse and Antietam Reverse.

And the pix that others have posted of the monster toned Oregons.....oh man, I started salivating!!!!

My favorite Early US Commem is the 1915-S Panama-Pacific Half Dollar. Sadly I do not currently own one. A couple of months ago I bid $1400 on an MS-64 example on Teletrade and got beat out by another bidder.

Another favorite is the Oregon Trail Half Dollar. Tonight on Teletrade I bid $170 for a MS-64 1926 example and lost to another bidder.

I'm going to a coin show next weekend and I'll buy an Oregon Trail if I find a nice coin at a reasonable price.

(Thanks to Heritage for the coin pics.)
