Lets post your favorite single coin found while roll searching, and why its your favorite. The coin can be your favorite for any different reason, how you found it, its worth, condition/toning, first coin found... whatever. Here's mine. A 1995 Double Die Obverse, which I sent in to be graded and came back MS64. This coin is my favorite because I found it in my first box of pennies I ever looked through. It's also my first error coin I've found, and I just think the doubling looks so cool.
My favorite coin would be an 1896 indian head penny. This was the first "valuable" coin that I found that was not a wheat penny.
Hi, Pi man, that is a terrific find! What kind of condition is it in? I must have looked through 30 boxes of pennies and have only found 1 indian cent and it was fully corroded. Do you have a picture of it? BTW - how did you find this thread? it hasn't had a reply in 8 months LOL.
My favorite was a 1909 V.D.B. I found a 1906 Indian head that was, obviously, older, but the novelty of the V.D.B. moved me from copper hoarding to appreciating coins for numismatic rather than just melt value. I have a couple of newer toned pennies that I find to be plain beautiful, with striking iridescent purple/greens and white "frosty" areas in Abe's beard. I know how CT can be about people describing coins without pictures, but my digital camera is out of commission and the camera on my phone is lousy to the point that it's barely worth mentioning. The 1909 V.D.B. is also neat because that was within my first 20,000 pennies I searched. I've been through enough to have near 1000 40's and 50's wheats and more than $400 in copper, and I haven't found anything in pennies on that par since. However, I did find a 1950-D nickel within my first $200 or so, and long before I found any silver war nickels.
My favorite circulation find is hands-down a 1972 DDO (I believe it is a #7). Not amazing #1 doubling, but its an amazing error! I dont know if this really counts also, but my father had a large chunk of canadian coin he had accumulated from circulation. Of that, I ended up finding a 1947 dot canadian nickle (in VF condition). That is another interesting one, just thought I'd share.
I keep it simple. I like the 64 Kennedy Half Dollar. Perfect heads or tails coin. Though peace dollars are very patriotic and classy.
