Just added these to the collection, the 1858 has a few edge knocks but the portrait of Queen Victoria is superb :smile also added a couple more Irish 1/2d 1843 1/4d Farthing Seated Britannia shamrock/rose/thistle in ex Queen Victoria 1837-1901 1858 1/4d Farthing Seated Britannia shamrock/rose/thistle in ex Queen Victoria 1837-1901 1868 1/2d Halfpenny Brittania seated holding trident, lighthouse & ship Queen Victoria 1837-1901 1891 1/2d Halfpenny Brittania seated holding trident, lighthouse & ship Queen Victoria 1837-1901 Hibernia 1752 1/2d Halfpenny Crown on Harp King George II Hibernia 1805 1/2d Halfpenny Crown on Harp King George III
Here's a pretty little 1674. I have a 1672 thats about EF, but unfortunately when I scanned it into my computer I accidentally pasted the reverse of that 1674! Talk about a mule! De Orc - pity there aren't any hammered farthings in there. I've been on the look out for one of those nice, tiny portcullis pieces of Elizabeth.
I do have a couple of Rose farthings but havnt got round to scanning them yet and I like your new mule LOL
I only have one rose farthing. These are kinda interesting pieces, largely because of the way they were struck. Instead of being cut from sheets of metal as most coins of the era were, they were punched out, giving them an almost scyphate shape. I was once told this piece was fake, but I disagree. James I, AD 1603-1625 Farthing – 11.5mm London, 1609-1610 AD crown with cross scepters behind IACO : D : G : MAG: BRI harp topped by crown FRA : ET HIB : REX Key mm Spinks 2679
Looks ok to me but to be sure I would need to have it in hand, so if you send it me I promise honestly to send it back LOL

You going for the full farthing run ? Anyone know anything about half-farthings though :S I've heard that the third farthings were purely for Maltese use which is a tad strange
Yes I have a few of both :kewl: The 1/3 farthing was issued in Malta as the Maltese had previously used a coin called the Grano this was worth to 1/12 of a penny, so they coined the equivelent British coin. The 1/2 farthing was issued initialy soley for use in Ceylon but was made legal tender in the UK in 1842 despite a lot of protest and was demoniterized in 1869 Ps forgot to mention 1/4 farthings as well LOL they again were issued for Ceylon and were never legal tender in the UK
I have a handful of Rose Farthings and Traders Tokens from 17th Century England. I've yet to ID them, to put them in my collection but I will shortly. I've been told that some of them managed to find their way to the New World (Colonial U.S.) so I've picked up a few for my collection and I add ones when I can. :thumb: They are so small and it's understandable that peeps back then had a little pocket sack to keep them in because there was no way they'd stay in your pocket and it also explains why so many are found by metal detectorists. Ribbit
Have fun with the Rose farthings Toad, I have a few that I am dreading trying to catalouge LOL if you can put up scans of the tokens we might be able to help (He say's confidently )
Lol, a quarter farthing? That's just strange. I've never even seen one of them - i'd guess there about the size of those titchy wee fanams. I'll need to keep a look out for them (hopefully without the need of a micro-scope ) Whenabouts were they issue? I'm going for a George IV farthing run atm simply because it's short and sweet
Hmm ... sounds like an intersting albeit expensive run Coincidentally shortly after reading this post I managed to locate and buy: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=280276601951&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=018 Photos aren't too great so i'll guess i'll have to wait for arrival before getting a proper grade but it looks pretty good from here Btw, it's your fault if I end up going into debt trying to collect quarter farthings
Lol... well I have a 1953 farthing, with Elizabeth II on it (and the wren on the reverse). Almost the last year they were made (1956 was the final year for farthings, wasn't it?) Be fun to put together a type set for farthings... got the most recent one already so suppose could work backwards from that! Maybe...
It's as good a way as any, just watch you don't get lured into the trap of half, third and quarter farthings like I was about 6 hours ago Who'd have thought that an MS 1/4 farthing costs in the region of a grand :S But good luck whatever your decision
Rather nice fractional also recieved as a prezzie from Mrs Orc  1842 Half Farthing Initialy produced for use in Ceylon but made legal tender in the UK 1842 Crown above value & date, a rose, thistle, and shamrock in ex Queen Victoria
All thanks for that one and the others I have posted today goes to the belved one who rules with a fist of Iron LOL Still got all the banknotes she bought me for xmas to scan and post yet LOL
