For those of you who do not yet know, PCGS unveiled a new tool for searching the marketplace for all PCGS coins offered for sale on-line. It is quite an ambitious undertaking, and is still in its infancy. I witnessed it being demonstrated this week and, despite the expected bugs in startup, it was quite impressive. Use of the tool requires that you be registered to have a registry set on their website . . . easy enough for anyone to do. The tool allows you to find all offered PCGS coins with a sophisticated set of filters to find ranges of dates, mintmarks, grades, designations, etc. It scrapes the internet, and their intent is that it will find all coins offered, not only on eBay and Collector's Corner, but also at all websites such as Amazon, LDRC, DLRC, nicecommoncoins, and yes, even ToughCOINS. I have pointed out to them that it is not yet finding all offerings, but they have assured me they are working diligently on it. While it will not locate NGC, ANACS and raw coins, and is somewhat self-serving in nature, it is still a great tool. This will likely light a fire under others to develop something that is all-encompassing, if PCGS chooses not to expand their tool to do so. The tool can be found at: http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/ and then click on SHOP . If you decide to check it out, please provide them with your feedback . . . they cannot consider making changes if they are unaware of what the marketplace would like to see.
Too bad you cant just browse by coin type, and not have to dig through the hierarchy of their defined registry sets. Does seem like this works really well, I hope they can refine it and make it work with custom search terms as well.
I wish they had a CAC only filter but was too shy to say it. Thanks for giving me the courage.
Well they did send me an email thanking me, but it remains to be seen if they actually will implement it.
I have used it and found several coins I would not have found on my own. I haven't purchased any yet, but it has helped.
I'm building a US Type Set, CAC approved, Circulation Strikes, so I just drill down into the coin series I need from the starting point of: Complete U.S. Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1792-1964) http://www.pcgs.com/shop/composites/complete-u-s-type-set-circulation-strikes-(1792-1964)/3696
