I got this for my B-day, from myself The lettering is doubled on part of the coin. Above "Constan" one the obv. and "Paratio" on the rev. I am guessing it is a double struck but I'm not the best at telling what kind of errors are on coins. Would I be correct? It's to dang glossy to snap a decent pic, apologies. Constantius II AE2 DN CONSTAN-TIVS PF AVG, PDC, A behind/ Phrygian helmet, sitting on ground, arm(s) up, A in left field. AQT in ex Aquileia 113/147
Darn glossies! My nemesis for pics too. Is it possible it could just be a shifted die, though it wouldn't make sense due to the figures not shifted. Hopefully Doug can help, or ask Dane?
They probably just whacked it twice. Maybe they didn't get a satisfying whack the first time. It's possible that the coin rattled a bit and rotated slightly between whacks. That would make the DS more obvious in the lettering than in the portrait or reverse image.
that's what i was thinking as well. darn hard to photography those glossy coins, i think your second pic is really good RG.
After looking at it again I can now see that the coin didn't rotate, it just shifted over a bit between strikes.
