yesterday, I bought a 1861 40 Reales from a antique mall, which turned out to be fake. Before I bought it I did a quick google search and saw that there was no documented fake 40 reales. When I got it home, I weighed it, and it came in at 2.2 grams. It should weigh 3.3 grams. I then had it tested and it wasnt gold. The store was nice enough to accept a return, when I stated my case. I post this because I wanted to get this out on the web, that there are fakes out there. Also Is there any significance of the weight being 2/3 of what it should of been? Thanks in advance.
My guess it was probably a replica not actually a counterfeit, although unfortunate it ended up being sold as such but at least you got your money back.
