I received this coin from a friend who dosent collect, so it cost me nothing, which is always good, and I'm not sure if its real toning or artificial. Now we've all seen the guy on Ebay who sells the rainbow Morgans that he tones from Electro Magnetic something, but this one im not sure. I want to say its fake, but if so how? Thanks for any help in advance.
I'm not sure if it is NT or AT. I'm told that the "final chapter" of NT is where the toning begins to turn black. This seems to be nearing that stage. Chris
If I was a betting man, and I am, I'd bet that is AT. Why ? Because just as a fake looks like a fake, AT looks like AT. Natural toning just doesn't look like that.
My best guess would be AT. Looks like it had some sort of chemical applied to it to achieve that affect. From what I can see it looks like its been cleaned as well. Not bad for a free Morgan, though.
AT or NT this one looks like the paint on but done semi well. There so many ways to doctor tone coins I could write a list!!!! NT coin once you train yourself see it you can not forget the look Here what Pcgs has . http://www.pcgs.com/search.aspx?cx=...UTF-8&q=toned+coin+standards+&sa.x=31&sa.y=14
Definitely not market acceptable. The colors are wrong, the color transitions are wrong, and the pattern is wrong. Aside from those issues, one thing to really notice on this one is: The abrupt, crisp change from the toning, to the areas without toning. These toning edges should at least have some degree of smooth transition and color cycle to them. This coin was stuck into a solution, or a reactive chemical was obviously applied to it causing a very quick reaction. Also, I see a cleaned or over dipped coin underneath that "toning".
