Currently offered in an auction as Cahn 71 (!!!????) this type is actually illustrated as a modern fake (F1) in Cahn. Sadly, there are several bids already, so bidders be aware...
This is not the first time I have heard about roma selling fakes, infact its like the 5th. But I'm pretty ignorant on the subject... Whats up with them?
I wrote to Roma about this coin and expressed everyone's concerns. Here is what Clementine Bowring, the assistant manager, wrote back to me: "Dear Glenn, Thank you for your email to Roma Numismatics concerning lot 355 in E-Sale 87. We agree with your assessment that the coin is not a genuine authentic coin and have therefore withdrawn it from sale, it may take a few minutes to update on the website. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Kind regards, Clementine" I agree that Roma occasionally makes mistakes, but kudos to them for doing the right thing in this case.
