so i bought some coins on ebay and found a double sided ihc and my first thought it was fake but i'm no expert. it doesn't seem to stick to a magnet and it weighs 2.5 grams which seems a little low. when i turn it over it is also rotated and they are different dates. pics: http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx131/jon4485/CIMG2405.jpg http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx131/jon4485/CIMG2406.jpg thanks for any input
It's not fake. Many souvenirs are made where one side of a coin is cut out and replaced with the same as the side that still remains.
It sounds like it could be a magician's coin where the obverses (or reverses) of two coins are joined together. Can you see a seam along the edge of the coin? Search the threads for "magician's coin" for more info.
Yes; as previously said, it looks to be a genuine IHC but it is very likely that someone molded two obverses of an Indian Head Cent together creating this "trick" coin. I was actually just tossing a coin like this around in my coin shop last week, though the one I had was two reverses of a Lincoln Wheat Cent molded together. It was pretty entertaining... :goofer: -Brian
this makes sense and i think i can see a seam where they were joined together. man this coin sure fooled me! i searched magicians coin threads but alot of the links weren't working : /
No problem at all! Either way, it is still an interesting "toy" to own and a fantastic conversation piece. -Brian
