Brandon, is it possible to make higher magnification photos? It the classes I've been in, we use stereo microscopes so we can get a close look at the surface using 5X to 10X. Otherwise, a knowledgeable collector of Byzantine coins may just need a quick look to determine by its style and fabric that it is good or bad.
I am not a knowledgable collector of Byzantines but I don't think more magnification is necessary. The fabric is wrong, the patina is wrong, the style is wrong, and the obverse legend is gibberish.
Not sure of the coin itself, but that Patina looks fake. Could be a real coin with fake Patina applied, but can you provide better pictures please?
For 3 bucks, keep it as a memento. But yeah its a fake, looks completely wrong when it comes to patina, style and condition.
