I would like to see the edge, because the obverse looks ok. I think someone cast a fake reverse and welded it on to a real coin.
I saw that and thought the observe was OK and then saw the reverse and it was like "holy shi*, fake!"
I think you may be right---the obverse and reverse just seem 'mismatched'...even if one was to acknowledge worn dies etc... But, the rarity of the type would have me anxious and wary...I haven't compared genuine examples to it as yet... Has anyone contacted that seller???
if that were a real coin, it would be...what...a 1,000 dollar coin at least? here's one at warrens page.... http://esty.ancients.info/Christian/ChristianSymbols.html
Just looking at Warrens example already has me convinced something's wrong with that e-Bay coin---and especially if the rarity equates to 2 k or more as JA just posted... The bid is over a hundred and climbing...
I don't think this helps at all...but that seller did respond to me and sent these photos of the coin edge....responding ignorance of any wrong-doing, but stating again that the coin was probably cleaned and tooled...
Yep, through the e-Bay message format...and she's a woman (Ana) from Serbia... And, yep, it sure looks like 'a glob of gum' LOL
