Seller obviously has good intentions, lol. He even made sure to include a close-up of the VDB on the shoulder.....

This is no crook trying to steal your cash for a change, just an honest mistake.....what we have here is a 1944-D shaved to appear as a 1914-D.....ignoring the VDB, you can tell by the obvious spacing between the 9 and the 1, and the incorrect shape and position of the mintmark. Too bad, that would be a sweet 14D !!

Get a kick out of the listing tho before it's removed :

That is actually a skillfully altered '44-D. If you didn't know what to look for (VDB on Lincoln's bust, wide spacing between 9 and second 4, mm, etc.) you could be easily fooled by this fake.

I would like to buy it for an educational piece but not for $100.

BTW, I e-mailed the seller and said "You do know that is an altered 1944-D, don't you. I hope you don't sell this altered coin to a poor unsuspecting soul." It will be interesting to see if he responds.

It would be ez to use it as a educational piece with out costing you anything. Just use the picture.

If you look at the blow up of the date you can actually see the 4 that was partially deleted. When we were kids we used to do that with an electric eraser and we did much better work. I do applaud who ever did this though for retoning the entire coin so as to make it look all the same.

I can see the missing parts of the "4" in the small pic...
