If this is simply too easy for some of you serious coin experts, you may want to take a pass on this one...

    1. Which coin was nicknamed the "Buzzard Dollar?"

    2. Without looking at a coin guide, can you name the dates (years from when to when) the Lincoln Wheat pennies were minted?

    3. (Trick question) Which coin was affectionately known as the Carter "Quarter?"

    4. Which coin is known as the "Golden Dollar?"

    5. Which coins were nicknamed "JC Pennies?"

    Good luck!

    You did well.

National Dealer. Please feel free to answer these questions whenever you like and if you don't mind, please give some background on the nicknames "Buzzard Dollar" the "Carter Quarter" and "JC Pennies."

    Also...

What are some other nicknames for coins and/or interesting trivia relating to coins and coin collecting?

I will put together a list of the more common nicknames this weekend.
Like the other moderators, if we post our answers to trivia early in the thread, that really isn't fair to others. I do like this idea though. If we can get more people involved in these activities, learning becomes fun.

    Official (or unofficial) answers...

    1. quoting from a pamphlet on Morgan Dollars...
"The reverse design, an eagle with its wings spread, didn't appeal to the tastes of everyone. Many thought the eagle appeared frail and emaciated, and mocked the depiction by referring to the coin as the Buzzard Dollar".

What a terrible nickname for a coin as fine as the Morgan Dollar!

    2. 1909-1958

    3. the Susan B. Anthony Dollar is sometimes referred to as The Carter Quarter.

    4. Sacagawea Dollar is also called the "Golden Dollar."

JoeCoin supplied an additional answer for coin(s) also known as "Golden Dollars" - 1849-1889 US Gold One Dollar Coins.
    Thanks JoeCoin.

    5. the Susan B. Anthony Dollar was, is, sometimes referred to as "JC Pennies" according to information found at the following web site. SBA Dollars are also called "Agony Dollars" as well.
