I was back at the coin store today with one of my albums when one of our local experts on Roman and Byzantine coins came in.I showed him the collection and he leafed through, not saying much, past all my favorites and then pulled out this one.He said "where did you get this? Very nice,I've only seen a couple of them." It is probably the ugliest most nondescript coin I own but suddenly,it's beautiful. I'm so shallow..LOL maybe I'll give it a decent new label or something. P.S. I just looked up some realized auction prices on Wildwinds and it's not that valuable..so much for the new label.Back to ugly, see what I mean?
That's the kind of coin you want to hold on to my friend! When ever anyone in the US side forum states the following "show me one rare/scarce/uncommon coin that's not popular", well you've got one! Perfect example of how survival rates are not the ultimate factor in coin pricing. Sometimes you can have a coin that doesn't turn up often, but due to the design they just aren't popular! You have an ultimate example of that phenomenon. That'd only make me want to keep the coin even more!
I am actually looking for one of those. Actually these are not as common as the price would suggest. They are far less common than the much earlier pieces from Kherson. The design is nondescript as you note, perhaps that is why it is overlooked as it is, but these pieces are not so common and people overlook that fact. Nice though when you can get a scarce piece for a nominal sum because it is overlooked.
OK, I'm making the new label and holder just because of you two.Krasnaya, notice the new spelling of the mint..благодарит Вас являются лучшими !
