So I've been coin roll hunting for about a month now and decided to expand my search locations. I placed an ad looking for loose change, piggy banks, rolled coins and other collections of coins to search. (Yes, for you purists, I know this isn't true "roll hunting"). A fellow e-mailed me and said that he had some coins if I was interested. Here is what he had for me: A 5 gallon water bottle full of pennies! We agreed on $300 for the bottle, which was a guess on both parties. Well, I got them home and started counting. Initially counting in $.50 tubes which eventually turned into counting out $5.00 based on weight (2lb 13 1/2oz). Well, we ended up with around $270 give or take a few bucks and I'm pretty happy with that. (Hey......$30 for entertainment value and the thrill of the hunt!) Here they are after removing them from the water bottle, counted and put in a more accessible format: They are strategically placed beside my chair and the search will begin TONIGHT! I'll keep everyone posted on the results! Chuck
awesome keep us posted on what you find. :thumb: if you happened to find alot of the same date that are bu let me know
Ive gotten some results. It seemed like folks respond better to "rolled coins" as opposed to requests for loose change or other descriptions. Got a good deal in some silver coins from a fellow who had coin rolls. Still expirimenting with my ad copy to see where my best results are. Interesting story....was at the bank this morning cashing in some rolls to buy some change from an ad respondent. There was a guy at the teller asking if he could use the coin counter there at the bank. I told him to wait just a second, offered to buy his change when I got finished with my transaction. We walked outside, counted out his change and I got $72 worth of new stuff to search. I think you just have to be creative where you look for and find stuff to search.
Spent some time searching last night. I'm sorting them out by decade so they will be in some form of digestible format. So far found 6 Canadians, very nice 1968 and 1959, 2 wheats (1939 and 1941).
