Hey all, Check this out: It looks like it is raised to me... and it looks like a spike. Opinions, thoughts? This is from a mint roll I just opened 10 minutes ago. As always, thanks for entertaining my posts!
I was afraid of that myself, but I'm pretty confident it is raised. I actually found a scratched 2011-P Garfield for comparison (Different coin for comparison) I also found a 2nd coin from the Hayes roll that matches :smile I'm not fully convinced this is legit, but I'm hopeful!
Man... From your pictures in the OP, I'm inclined to agree...it looks there, to my old eyes anyway, like it's raised. Interesting find...I'm curious to hear more opinions.
I am curious as well, though I'm pretty sure I'm going to drop the few bucks to send this off to a CONECA attributor to get a pro opinion. I'm kind of kicking myself now because I had another roll that I pretty much breezed through not thinking there was anything to find (and at first glance, it does indeed just look like another coin smacked it and left a dent, which appears to be very common with these). Thanks for checking out my pics and giving feedback!
It's a die scratch or gouge. Very common, but in an interesting place on yours. This might be worth a little bit of a premium for novelty factor.
Like a $10K novelty premium I agree, die gouge seems to be the most plausible explanation. If the relief were a bit lower or if if the line wasn't parallel, I'd probably add it to my collection and not think too much more of it. I asked a CONECA guy if he is willing to look at it... if he is, then I'll let him officially tell me it is a die gouge Until then, I'll be dreaming of DDR.
