Just looking on ebay and came across this note.. Seems a bit expensive.. Accoring to the paper money guide should be around $55k http://cgi.ebay.com/1934-5000-FIVE-...234?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e5ca18d5a
On Heritage, back in 2005 they were selling (un-slabbed) for $39,000 - $41,000. That was six years ago. This is out of my league. Maybe one of the U.S. money guys can explain it. Could be supply and demand or just another "Made You Look!" by the dealer.
The price guides are just that "guides" the prices quoted there sometimes dont reflect the actual retail Prices using this source along with a place like Heratige auctions at what your willing to pay would Be a good balance, this particular note would be way overpriced!
as stated guides are just that. On another possibility - there were other ebay sellers who would sell high value notes for WELL above the true value. They never sold, but generated alot of traffic to the auction, and generated alot of 'buzz'. sorta of like free advertising.. well, at least for the price of the listing fee....
