This is the coolest thing I have ever seen. http://unitednuclear.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=60 This company has stamped "coins" (truly medals, I suppose) out of any kind of metal they could get their hands on. They're priced according to rarity. When I was a kid, I wanted to collect samples of many different elements for a science fair project, but I never got around to it. Now someone has made it easy! I can't say I have the cash laying around to buy a full set right now, but it's a neat concept, and something I'd definitely consider.
Wow! That is great! I can't complain about the designs - very practical, they fit the nature of element collectors.
Very nice! I wonder what would happen if you bought one of those sulphur coins and placed it in a box of silver coins. Would you see any toning? just wondering, but I'm not curious enough to spend the bucks.
I'm waiting for the plutonium ones so I can sell them to Iran Seriously though, neat idea but I don't think I'd buy them myself as I just don't need to have coins I can never take out of their containers because they start reacting with air and corroding...
that would be a nice type set. If it were too much you could go for the short set and only collect the dangerous ones that are sent in a glass envelope. Do you think the sulfur coin would tone the rest of the set?
They warn you not to let the sulfur near the silver. An outfit called the Shire Post Mint used to stamp fantasy coins out of some cool things including niobium.
Interesting, but I don't think I'd have coins in my house that need MSDS labels. Especially not with kids around. Some of those metals are very toxic and I don't think it would be worth the risk just to have something "neat".
