Howdy folks, got a pretty fun challenge coin here, I actually picked it up earlier this morning as a matter of fact. I'm picking these up pretty quickly; the military is shoving these at me nearly as fast as patches, which I'm not going to complain about. This one is a challenge coin from the 359 TRS, DET 1 from Eglin AFB. While I'm training here I'm technically still under Sheppard's authority, which I believe has something to do with the "DET 1" part of it. On one side, (I can't tell obverse from reverse on challenge coins), the main design is split into thirds with weapons, avionics, and crew chiefs. Side note, the design for the crew chiefs, the bulldog, is the same as the one from 362 at Sheppard, the "Crew Dawgs". Every maintainer in the Air Force has been through there, and the squadron is older than the hills, but that's my favorite assignment so far. Weapons is the reaper, and I was actually going into a weapons job before I was reclassed, but I'm satisfied with that because it turns out weapons guys don't actually do any work, that's for us real maintainers. I will say though, their motto is pretty hard: "Giving our enemies a chance to die for their country". They cooked with that one. Avionics is avionics, I don't know much about them, except every avi guy I've met has been a little goofy. The other side of the coin features a top-down view of the F-35 which this squadron trains for, as well as the squadron's official "logo" I suppose, and the mascot hammerhead shark. Not a whole lot to say about that side, it's more "show, don't tell" with this coin. 20251009_105731.jpg 20251009_105748.jpg
