This is like 1960 or 1961 was with silver. There is a bill to remove the nickel from the 5 cent coin http://www.thedailyeconomist.com/2013/05/coin-clipping-government-seeks-to.html
Once you start saving your nickels, make sure you get plenty of PVC pipe so you can bury'em on your land to keep 'em safe.... It helps to have a bunch of home-schooled kids around to help dig the holes... http://www.thesurvivalistblog.net/mass-inflation-ahead-save-your-nickels/
If you bought junk silver 50 years ago in 1963 and still held it today, would you call that a great investment ?
burying them seems a bit extreme to me ! It would be pretty difficult for a thief to make off with thousands of lbs of your nickel hoard. You could just get a 55 gallon drum or 10 or however many you need and fill them with rolls of nickels in your basement or garage and it ain't going anywhere because of the weight. The thief would need dozens of 5 gallon buckets or something to steal it, plus a lot of time and a very H/D truck.
A box of unc 1963 quarters face value- $500 number of coins- 2000 current value of ms 63 - $20 current value 1963 d ms66 $110 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-D-WASH...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 1950 at $20 = $3900 50 at $110 = $5500 $9300 if a ms67 1963 d could be found (possibility) it blows that number up considerably. 20X's your money on an investment that can never be worth less than you paid for it. if you sold in the 1980's return would be better
Yes fine if you sold it at the absolute ( and brief) peak of $50 oz in 1980....not so great right now. I'm calling it circulated junk silver so maybe make it 45 years and 1968, I'm sure silver was still easy to find then. My point is you'd want to sell of these nickels pretty quick....like maybe double your money in 5 years then it is good.
