Hey everybody,i am new to this so please be kind.I just came into possession of two coins. One is a 1941 half dollar. It has the D mark on the eagle side of the coin on the lower left side.
The Other one is a 1943 d lincoln penny. I used the magnet method and the coin did not stick. The coin is very dirty.I do not have a digital camera so i could not post pics. Is there any other method besides the magnet to decide this coins value. i got both these from the cash register.

Howdy newguy - Welcome to the Forum !!

In regard to the half dollar - we'd have to see a pic of the coin to judge its value. Value is largely dependent on condition.

As for the '43 cent - the coin was commonly counterfeited and/or altered because of the value of a genuine example. Since there are so few genuine examples known - I would suspect that your coin is one of these. But it is possible it is genuine. The only way to know for sure would be to have the coin authenticated by one of the top grading companies like NGC, PCGS, ANACS or ICG.

The bronze 1943 American 1 Cent coin is very rare.If you get one in your change,
chances are it has had the date altered to fool an inexperienced collector.

Hi newguy. Welcome to the forum.
After the magnet test, the next step is to look at the date under the highest magnification available to you. Altered 1948s are probably the most common fake copper '43s. Even if you can't see evidence of tooling, you should try to compare the shape of the "3" with a normal steel cent.
