Couple more sets just added and I have to say at least the Greeks have shown a bit of thought when it came to the design of the coins unlike those from Luxembourg LOL Luxembourg 2003 the set is 1c to 50c and they all depict a Effigy of Grand Duke Henri Now for the Greek set 2002 1 cent Athenian trireme of the 5th century BC. 2 cents corvette (or dromon) of the early 19th century. 5 cents modern tanker, symbol of Greek enterprise. 10 cents Rigas Velestinlis-Fereos (1757–1798), Greek poet. Globe & value 20 cents Ioannis Kapodistrias (1776–1831), Greek statesman. 50 cents Eleftherios Venizelos (1864–1936), prominent Greek politician To view just follow the link in my Sig :hail:
Wait until you see or get the pieces from Belgium or Ireland. Eight times the same design. But, a nice collection you have there! Christian
like chrisild mentioned, i have yet to see a large sampling of world coins US included, that have nice designs! there was a thread circulating that IMHO have some very cool and creative designs. I have a ton of world coins, and i will continue with them.. but i gotta say .. they just dont bring the same joy to me as currency. I truly hope, the US and the rest of the world tune up the artistic quality on the coins, far too many of them just put me to sleep ..... zzz

Good luck with your collection. Don't worry if you are a bit bored with the harps, You will have a lot of fun with the 2 euros conmemorative coins
19999 LOL a missprint hya: izotz I have nearly all the 2 euros to date with one Finnish coin missing I believe, I do though need to check if there are any mint variations for the Greek 2 euros. I also do not have any from Monaco/Vatican/San Marino bit to expensive for me.
Fortunately the Greek mintmarks variations are limited to the 2002 pieces: The 1 to 10 and 50 cent coins may have an F (minted in France), the 20 cent pieces may have an E (minted in Spain), and the 1 and 2 euro coins may have an S (minted in Finland). Their positions are: 1 ct - ten o'clock star; 2 and 5 ct - two o'clock star; 10-20-50 ct - eight o'clock star; 1 and 2 euro - six o'clock star. The ones without those extra characters were minted in Greece. And if you take different mint marks into account, Luxembourg has an interesting mix: Some of its circulation coins were made in the Netherlands, some in Finland and some in France. But it's only one mint per year, not a "mixed" setup ... Christian

Been waiting for this one for some time and it has finaly been issued LOL Belgium 2008 2 euros 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Curved lines around a rectangle marked with the figure 60 Map of EU To view please just click on the link in my sig
That is actually the official logo, see http://www.ohchr.org/EN/UDHR/Pages/Logo60.aspx ... which is also why I find the design a little dull. (Of course it still beats Philippe Starck's minimalism. ) By the way, four euro countries (BE, FI, IT, PT) have issued or will issue €2 commems on that occasion. This will be the Portuguese piece http://www.zwei-euro.com/2-euro/portugal/2008/klein.jpg and this http://www.ecb.europa.eu/bc/euro/coins/comm/shared/img/comm_2008_Italy.jpg is the Italian design. The plans for Finland are apparently not official yet. Christian
I have a pre order on the Italian, and also had one on the French but the guy has suddenly dissapeared! so will buy one of those when they are issued LOL
Just added two more to the collection  France 2008 2e Presidency of the Council of the European Union inscription 2008 PRÉSIDENCE FRANÇAISE UNION EUROPÉENNE RF Map of the community & Value Slovenia 2008 3e Presidency of the Council of the European Union EU star in the form of a windmill. The star is said to represent Slovenia's energy, strength and active participation in the role of EU president. The inscription in the rim, 'Facta Loquuntur', meaning Work Speaks A cluster of stars symbolizing the 27 EU Member States, Value, Date & country
Those two also made it into my collection. For people who are not familiar with euro coins: The €2 pieces are commemorative coins, and legal tender throughout the area just like the regular circulation pieces. That €3 piece is a regional collector coin, legal tender in the issuing member state only; those hardly ever occur in the wild. Design wise, I like the piece from Slovenia better. When I first read that the French EU Presidency commem would be designed by the famous Philippe Starck, I was really curious. When I saw the first pictures of the design, it was like, oh well.
