Anthony, the only Euro coins that are of interest to me are the ones from Ireland. When Cyprus & Malta join the Eurozone next year,I will be getting their Euro coins.I've already got this year's Irish Euro coins from the 1 Euro-Cent right up to the 2 Euros, plus the Treaty of Rome 2 Euros as well.

The only countries that you will have trouble getting Euro coins from are Monaco,San Marino,& the Vatican City in Rome.

Well, there are eight coin denominations, 1 cent to 2 euro, and currently 16 euro countries. But as Aidan wrote, don't expect him to bring pieces from the three non-EU countries (MC, SM, VA) since they issue no or hardly any coins for circulation.

If he goes to Italy, he will (surprise :) ) most likely come across Italian coins. Italy has eight different designs for the eight denominations, so that will be neat by itself. And especially in the major cities, and wherever a lot of tourists are, he will also get pieces from the other euro countries.

That is true. It is not difficult at all to get coins there. Even there are some countries where you can get entire rolls of coins.
