Ok, it's not that exciting. It is a fairly normal coin, but I like that story about the gold crown and Archimedes running naked through the streets. I picked this one up today at the regular Saturday market. The portrait of Hiero is not the greatest, but the horseman on the reverse is nice and sharp, with clear name. Gave me a very good deal compared to the listings on MA-Shops currently for a similar piece. Wanted a nice example of this very important figure in the time, being connected to Pyrrhus, Archimedes, and the first Punic War period. I especially like the vintage coin tag from the previous collection. I always try to keep these together. Sicily, Syracuse Hieron II AE27, 275-215BCE Obv. Diademed head of Hieron left Rev.
