This coin has been sitting in my safe for quite a few years. I put it away because I just wasn't 100% sure that it is authentic, and not a more recent Becker type forgery. It is extremely well done and struck in silver but there is some granularity on the obverse surface (mostly by the lower front of the bust) that is very suspicious. In addition the reverse design is quite a bit smaller than I am used to seeing on this issue. From the side view it is obvious that it was struck, not cast, but that is also typical of a Becker type.

Here's the pic and I would certainly appreciate any opinions. Also, is someone familiar with the clues that would give a high probably of a coin being this type of forgery? BTW, it is 21mm and 4.8 gms.

I should note that I believe it is a Becker type.

I have no expertise on forgeries of this specific coin, but I really don't like the little pimples.

it could be worth something as a becker forgery, if one could prove he made it.

This looks like a match (from Forvm's Fakes gallery). Style-wise, it doesn't look like the Beckers I saw when hunting for your coin. The picture below looks much "soapier" than yours. Maybe yours is an earlier version and the one below made from a mold of yours?

I agree with John-- yours looks suspiciously like a cast.

Without commenting on Becker forgeries, I was actually researching this man and his coinage today!
