Hi. While searching on Wildwinds about coins of Empress Eudoxia, I noticed that none of them included a cross on the reverse being held by the Empress'hand on her heart. They were to the right field , or to the left field or upper right. This coin , newly- acquired by myself, shows the cross on the above description. I hope I'm not mistaken. Could you please please have a look ? Thank you..
I'd need a better photo to see anything. I do note an error on Bruck page41 giving this to Aelia Pulcheria (or am I missing something?).
Hi DS. Empress Pulcheria was the daughter of Empress Eudoxia..In my latest research, my coin is similar to RIC X- 81 B from Cyzicus. I mean it's likely to be Eudoxia. But the main point remains the cross on heart.Of course I'll be posting better pictures in the afternoon as I'm going now to office, the time is still 8.15 in the morning here. BTW. The coin weighs 2.61 g. and I can clearly read MANOR on the upper right of the reverse : That would definitely mean Gloria Romanorum. Charles
You might be perfectly right. This is a third photo of lesser quality which does not figure a cross in the field that could have been erased due to consumption. I cannot tell the reason.
All coins pertaining to Eudoxia listed on Wildwinds for this category, show the reverse with a cross on the right or left field. Only one example shows it with a star to the left. Not a single one with " Gloria Romanorum " lacks a cross , or a star. What would you tell.. Shall I keep my research. Thanks.. Charles
