Hey guys. There is a seller on ebay selling wheat cents from estates by the pound. As a bonus he includes two silver dimes and a silver quarter. He guarantees that the cents are unsearched. The seller has posted previous buyer feedback in the description and people claim to have found 1908s vdbs and 1916 d mercs among other various key date coins. Are these vuyer feedbacks staged or do you guys think it would be worth while to search a lot ot two. Each lot sells for around 42 bucks including shipping. Heres a link to the listing:http://cgi.ebay.com/OLD-US-COINS-LI...itu=UCC&otn=5&ps=63&clkid=1390327111816570517
It is a rip-off. And if you sell enough of these you can seed a couple of key dates into the mix. Personally I think some on some of these auctions like this it is fixed feedback - no proof.
It's a scam. It never ceases to amaze me how many folks come here and ask questions about various so-called "un-searched" lots of coins on eBay. Common sense should tell anyone that there is no such thing. Why in heaven's name would anyone sell you a huge lot of old coins without first going through them to make sure that they cherry-pick out anything of significant numismatic value? Yet not a day goes by that we don't see this question repeated over and over and over again. No offense, but don't be so naive, people!
Any time you read "Estate Sale" ..it is BS !! Have you ever been to an estate sale? Ever buy coins from one? Whats even funnier are the sellers who sell "sealed" rolls of wheats and buffalos! Sometimes theyll throw an Indian on the end so you think...hmm maybe theres a key date in there? but low and behold youll always recieve a little less than what you paid for.
If you think about it, even if the seller didn't search the rolls, the previous person probably did. It's unlikely that the rare date wheat pennies are just sitting in a pile somewhere. Anyone who was enough of a collector to save wheat pennies probably knew what they had and separated the good stuff a long time ago.
I will buy a roll or two every now and then just because I like wheats. I know I am not going to find a 1909 S VDB or even just a 1909 S, but it is hard to find very many good wheats in circulation anymore. They are good if you are just starting a wheat collection and don't want to pay $.50 to $1 from a dealer for every coin in the folder. That is just my opinion though.
