i can't believe what some of them are going for. i love collecting but i'm not paying that kind of money unless its gold. The worse part, you've gotta think if it's real or fake. people cutting sheets to make an "error". missing printing, you can dip bills in bleach and get that. this is part of the reason why i wont buy off ebay. Anybody ever buy anything and something like this happens?
Yes there are fakes out there and yes people buy them. But it´s not consentrated on ebay only. People just seem to buy things on haste and exitement. Beginners and people that just dont gather enough information seem to be the target. I have been there and I think a whole lot have. Supply and demand keeps the fakes rolling in. Regarding price, Again demand keeps the prices up and as long as nut cases like me are willing to pay for something that is rare. Well there you have it prices go up :thumb:
i bought a one $1, it looked like it was misalined then cut. Well i didnt think of it until i got home but i took anther one and put them togeather and the "error" i bought wasnt the same size. just a little smaller. i've been told by other coin shops that they can come from bep like that but its very rare. i went back they offered me my money back but it was like six bucks. so i kept it.
Well that´s how you make sure you dont burn if you buy something that is not what was expected at first. Alot of sales of error coins and notes that end up being repos ore PMD are not done with the intent to fraud people. It´s because of the lack of knowlidge of seller. So if you buy stuff on ebay or at a store always make sure that you are able to return the item.
Arent uncut sheets always above the 'top limit' for regular notes? For folks like me who cant memorize the serial tables, take a look at www.uspapermoney.info/serials - there he lists all the different 'ceilings' for regular issues. Currently 96000000. Uncut sheets above that should be easy to spot. here is what he says about uncut sheets
There is one seller on ebay who sells "error" notes made from sheets and even says in the description that they are not BEP errors and they still get ridiculous bids. Those notes are worthless as errors and the buyers will be disappointed when it comes time to sell unless they pass them off intentionally to another unsuspecting/uneducated buyer.
or people who dont look up the block number. i admit, i did it once. didnt buy it but i thought it was real.
