Welcome to CoinTalk @David Richer ! It's useful, when you post photographs of the part of a coin you are interested in learning about, to go ahead and post a photo of the full front and back of the coin. Sometimes our experts (I am NOT one of those) look at another part of a coin that an OP was not concentrating on, and see something interesting. You wouldn't want to miss that. I look forward to seeing more of your coins. Do you have a particular interest in coins? And have you been collecting coins for a while?
I assumed it was a plating blister too looking at the surface of the coin. You can see the streaks starting just under UNITED on the far left (even on the inside of the rim) and continuing to the far right. also post both the full front and rear of the coin. Just knowing it was a post 1982 zincoln tells us a lot about the coin without even seeing it. zincolns are notorious for bad surfaces. Really bad surface.
saw that @Clawcoins, I also understood it to be a result of blistering. I was not suggesting that what the OP was seeing and pointing out to us was anything other than that. I guess my point was, that if he were not an experienced collector (like myself), we might learn by watching the experts examine and render an opinion on the whole coin - obverse and reverse. But I think I will refrain from asking new members to post the full obverse and reverse of their coin when asking for opinions. I suppose if an expert desires to see that, they can and will ask for it. Thanks and sorry if I was a disturbance or annoyance.
Please dont refrain! We all want and need to see the entire coin in question. It is absolutely the correct thing to ask of new members. In addition if it were a true error then there could be a diagnostic marker somewhere else that can confirm or rule out the attribution.
Good Eyes, though I did pick up the artifact that you were asking about. Frankly, I had no clue as to what it might be either; now I know, so thanks for asking your question and welcome aboard! Semper Fidelis
