    I think we need to use a little common sense, here. What part of the minting process could cause this?

    No, it's not very strange, it's just been beaten half to death.
    Learn how coins are minted, and what causes mint errors, before you start asking about every coin that passes through your pocket being a possible error.

    I don't keep track of every coin ever minted to have a record of how every bit of damaged occurred. Your guess of how it happened is as good as mine. Spend it and forget it.

    It's like this. The descriptions of possible Mint errors could fill a book. The possible ways that could have caused circulation damage could fill a whole library. Where would you like to start reading?

    Damage is damage No matter where it happened unless it happened to the planchet before the strike. Your coin was damaged after it left the mint.
