Will all post-1982 cents that are struck 15% or more off center show any of the underlying zinc? I see a very large number of these coins do, but am wondering if this happens to all?
I would think that if the collar was in place chances are probably fairl good the plating will slpit and expose the zinc. If the collar is jammed down out of the way I think you would have a better chance at not spliting the plating.
If the collar was out of the way, couldn't it get broadstruck too? Either way I see what you're saying. The copper plating seems to me as if would just crinkle and chip off exposing the zinc.
Conder, also my reasoning for asking this was this particular coin; NGC has put it as the 95% copper version, which I can tend to believe since of the toning and the fact i see no zinc.
