So you are saying the D is double struck? I'd say in the $10-$20 range.

no it looks like the D was over struck with the 1 in 2001 so it makes the D look like a small letter b just as this b looks

can you post a pic or tell us what is doubled? 1983 has a major double die that commands quite a premium. As in about $150-$200 kind of premium in MS grades.

It sounds like a die crack...I haven't heard of a new RPM for a long time.

As soon as you post a photo I'll try to give my 2 cents

And you won't - at least not on the more recent coins. I'd have to look it up to be sure but I think it was in 1988 that the mint stopped punching in the mint mark on the dies for cents.

1988 was a great year for new things ;--)

How is it made on the die now? (mintmark that is)

You said for the Cents...is it the same for the rest of the coins or do they still do it the old way?

If my memory serves me correctly the mint mark is now part if the hub - and yes it is the same for all coins now. They changed the cents first - the method was changed for the other coins shortly after. As I said before, I can easily be of on the year, my memory is not what it used to be :( But the end result I am certain of.

Thanks for the info....My bro-in-law taped a program off the TV about how the dies and hubs are made...I want to see it but he keeps forgetting!!
