I have a 1975 penny that has no stamp on the back. I can't seem to find anyone that can tell me how rare this would be. Can someone here help? Thanks! Mark
Welcome to the forum. If you could post pictures of your coin, it would be a big help. It is hard to ID coins without them. Charlie
Sorry about that. It was late when I posted. I scanned the front and back @ 1200dpi, then cropped and reduced the file size. I hope the pictures have enough detail for you. Let me know what you think. --------- ~Mark
Hi. It appears that the back may have been sanded down, notice the parallel abrasions. How thick is the coin? If it's the same thickness or even a bit thicker than a regular cent than it could be a genuine error. If it's thinner than a regular cent then it has been altered post mint. I used to work in a machine shop and have seen some pretty odd things being done to coins and one of then was feeding cents through a power belt sander, why the guy was doing that I never figured out though.
I agree with Jumpingrat. Sorry to say your coin looks like it was defaced (or de-reversed as the case may be). This is the case with many "odd" coins in circulation, but there are also many examples of genuine errors too. Keep searching P.S. Your coin may also have been half of a magicians coin that came appart.
I believe you all are correct. I used a caliper to measure the 1975 in the pictures above and also a 1976 circulated. There was a bid difference - pictures attached. Thanks for your input. ~Mark
