Error or simply cool looking wear?

Found this 1969 nickel while CRH-ing. The pictures don't do it justice; sorry, taking them on my phone. It appears like it could just be wear, but I've never seen it like this and since the rim looks relatively unblemished it's got me wondering if it could be some sort of defection from the mint. The other reason I think this could be the case is seen in the third picture. The two different shades on the coin aren't a shadow or a result of the angle, that's actually a difference in the shade of the coin. It's less prominent on the obverse, but still there. I know in grasping at straws but I wanted to get y'all's opinions. Thanks!

Thanks! That's kinda what I'd been leaning towards.

I was kinda thinking the same, but the color change is very even on both sides. It almost like someone may have been holding it in a type of solution to see what it would do. I know you only got a cell for the picture wish you were able to get a better pic.

The reason I don't think its because of a solution is that on the obverse, the shading is different. It doesn't show up well in pictures, but the lines don't match up and are at different angles. If it were a solution based defacement then they must have had it angled at a very bizarre angle. Still quite possible, but I'm just gonna hope that's not the case :)

    I know...

I'll try to take better ones when I get my hands on a real camera; using my phone.
