Error or PMD?

    Hello All. I recently came across this penny in some change and noticed that it looks a bit off. The obverse has some damage to the right of the face and on top of the head, in the hair. This pic is a scan and doesn't really show this, but viewed at an angle it almost appears as though the mark to the right of the face is a silhouette of another face profile.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!
