Just wondering if this could be an error or just a coin someone messed with ? The collar around the coin is thicker and the lettering is mostly gone but the central design of the coin is pretty strong
I'm going to say error. Struck through on both the Reverse and Obverse. Here is an example from my collection
Very interesting coin. Where did you get it? Can you post some closer/larger photos? Any clues as to what the date might be?
Agree. Struck through. Rim is too defined for a "start-up" strike. What we used to call a "filled Die".
Struck Though Grease. This error type is often confused with die adjustment strikes. The difference between the two is that grease strikes will only be on the obverse or reverse, but will never effect the edge. Die adjustment strikes on the other hand always effect the edge as well as both the obverse and the reverse, with proportional weakness on the edge, obverse and reverse. They’re actually relatively easy error to tell apart once you realize this difference. Taken from sullivannumismatics.com
