i have a 1975-D roosevelt dime and the "w" in "In God We Trust" is cut off in the lower left corner of the letter because it is too close to the edge. is this significant?

It's actually pretty common in those years where the letter is hugging the design rim and the design rim itself is very narrow. Even a slight misalignment in the SW direction will cause the letter to be cut off.

    Correct. It's worth a dime.
