Well it seem there is a font error on some 2006 $20 notes. I have this on good authority believe me. Have a look at the top right corner just under the 20 on the top note pictured. Font is much larger than the one in the lower left hand corner. The second note is normal and these are not my pictures by the way. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/ed.jpg I'm not going to make this too technical but so far, it appears, this error has been found in IG-D and and IG-C blocks of 2006 notes. The possibility of an IG-* note is there. Should you happen to find one please PM me with details so I can pass them along. clembo
This was brought up on another forum a few weeks ago. Not sure if it's an error or they are going to be switching back to a more 'macro' size font for the plate numbers. Here's the discussion from 'over there'. http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=23&threadid=722602 btw: The plate number looks to be the same size in both of those notes in the photo you posted.
the images are too small for me to get a good look ... but it looks like the font 'might' be a different size. But with the images a bit too small.... its tough to make a call. Hopefully there will be a write up about it in the next banknote reporter
Apparently the June 22nd issue of CoinWorld has a write up. Here's part of an email I got today. "For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, these are written up in the 06/22/09 issue of Coin World (and apparently we also have Nicholas to thank for getting the word to CW so quickly). The explanation from the BEP is that they aren't errors: they're $20's printed on the new super-intaglio presses, and the larger FP# is being used to distinguish them from the $20's printed on the regular presses. I suspect that this means that they'll be pretty common before long." NOT an error. The BEP has a reason for it.
Thanks for the tip. I will look forward to the article when the issue arrives. Too bad its not an error lol it would be fun to look for them and just might incite so more paper money collectors
Or maybe it is like the web notes and the process will be discontinued and the notes will skyrocket in value... I guess you never know!
