im new here so i dont know if you guys know already but there seems to be a new error on the 1999-P nickels. look at the p and the last 99 and it seems to have some doubling
Deterioration doubling is from the erosion of the die from use-- it is just gettng old. Strike doubling/ also called mechanical doubling is from the con sliding insode the die frmo a die not being properly tightened. neither has any value.
WOW you just have to get out to more coin shows. Around the Illinois area there are coin shows everyweekend. Error coins are sky rocketing. At a few of the coin shows there are now dealers that sell basically error coins. I think you'ld be shocked at what they are charging for any signs of doubling regardless of the reason. Take the famous 1955 Lincoln poor man's double die which is in reality just worn out dies. They sell for about $10 and up naturally pending conditioin. I don't think some of the dealers sell any error coins at all for less than that.
Yup, I go to a lot of coin shows, and pass on all of that junk. Think about this one: I got a 1921 Merc in F-12 slabbed by ANACS, the dealer had posted a note of 1921/21. Naturally it was mechanical doubling. The flat shelf look was easy to spot. So, if they sell 1955 poor man's double dies for $10, ask them what they'd pay for mine. Trends is $125 in Fine, so, I'll take, oh, say $2,000,000? Or, offers, Please, all offers over $1,000,000 responded to immediately, and I'll deliver it in person.
See, it is possible for a buy/sell/trade offer to be so obviously a parody that it won't be edited out.
