i know people say to get the cherry pickers guide but i was wondering if anyone knew any good internet sources that illustrate errors. i know for lincoln cents there is lincolncentresource.com but i was wondering if there were any equivalent websites for quarters, nickles, dimes, etc. Thanks!
I know people are gonna get mad at me for this, but "Collecor's Universe" has a lot of error coins -with pics, and some of the top guns in the field explaining them. Put it this way - this site has a lot of people asking questions and that site has a lot of people answering questions. Also when "questionable errors coins" are listed on Ebay, they're usually talked about on that site. They usually explain why something is or is not the "real deal". -Such as all the die markers that are usually associated on the particular coin in question. For instance - the urine stream on a 37 D 3 leg buffalo, the spacing of "e pluribus unum" above the bison's back, the 2 1/2 feathers, and the moth eaten rear leg. If you run across a 3 leg that doesn't have these features -leave it alone. It's a fake. I hope this helps.
Coppercoins.com, is also another great source of info. Is there a particular denomination that you have in mind, or just minterrors in general???
If you become a member of ANA, you have free access to the vast library they have. They will ship you your books and you only pay media mail shipping. I recieved my first 3 books on Errors today. Price Guide to Mint Errors,Coin Clinic..both by Alan Herbert..and The Error Coin Encyclopedia by Fred Weinberg.
The most overlooked feature on any forum is the "search" function. Many error coins have been very well represented here. To show this please allow me to offer on of my threads on the 3-L buffalo. I think you'll find the information and participation by the forum rewarding One of a series of threads I did last year. http://www.cointalk.com/t63603/ Use the search function often. Jim
