Look in comments below for more pictures guys. I apologize in advance for the quality of pictures (especially on the canceled die quarter, thing has too many angles of reflection and I'm not a professional photographer so bare with me) but this took me a while to make (doing on iPhone)and I meant to go back and edit and give a description on what these were called, but I wouldt mind answering your question if you want to know what type of errors these are. so today my package came in today, and boy I am happy about what was in there. All thanks to @paddyman98 he sent me all these coins to add to my collection, that I showed off not too long ago. This would be the third time that the people on this website helped me out. Boy does it make me feel lucky, and very grateful! Never once have I thought that someone on a website like this would just send you stuff to be generous and helpful. This really makes me feel like I get something for all the time it took for me to post threads for my collection. Most of the things he sent me, I never thought I would find. It's very nice to be able to see them in person. I have only seen these error coins online. (The quarter struck on a cancelled die, I never even saw, but somehow I guess right what it could be.) Now that I think about it, some errors are pretty hilarious. Some of these guys had to be drunk to let some of these errors slide and those off centered coins look like good guitar picks, and makes me wonder if anyone famous ever used an off center coin as a guitar pick hahahaha but wow though these were so cool, so very happy to show them off. I stopped about 3 people at work to show these off too, made me feel like little kid at show and tell haha But here they are. Please, do not ask him to send you anything, just saying this out of respect for him. I only post this to encourage the new collectors to post their collection. People love seeing others collections, and they obviously want to see it grow. Just takes a little time. If you want free coins,(don't worry I don't judge, I wouldn't mind freebie coins myself) the best place to look would be in the contest forums locelated the same place you clicked the error coins, just gotta look for it. With all that said. Here are the coins. (Thank you so much @paddyman98, and the two other people who also sent me coins) not only does this help me learn, but this helps a lot of people on the forums here to learn as well.
Neat stuff. Those are indeed "the cool kind". Hey, why don'tcha find some other kind of photo backdrop besides the multicolored (rug? blanket? upholstery?) with bits of random debris in it, eh? Upgrade to some velour ... or leather ... or marble something...
Hahaha I think Chris said something to me about that before. I always thought that was a good way to make sure you guys know I'm not bluffing if and when I find a really nice coin haha but you are right, I am sure that it's not the best meterial for putting coins on. I'll look around for something better.
PS- that was a very classy gesture on @paddyman98's part! PPS- I would have said you're crazy for thinking about the "guitar pick" thing, but I had the very same thought, and I'm not even a musician.
Haha I thought it would be cool. I am sure some musician who likes coins would agree haha. I would never use one as a guitar pick if you ever thought that haha
I would actually buy something like that haha. That's awesome that they exist. So this is how great ideas like this are born haha
I don't think this was made with a cancelled die. I think it was ran thru a machine to destroy bad coins.
Correct.. it is called a waffled coin. The Mint does this when there is something wrong with it such as an error. @Tyler Graton I want to share this webpage with you - http://www.error-ref.com/canceled-waffled/
Yeah well I kind of guessed. I never really heard about a specific machine that breaks down coins too. I only heard about struck with a canceled die, and I never heard that happening with American coins (being struck on a canceled die) so I only guessed. Technically this is a damaged coin, the error is that it got out haha
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a Missouri SQ struck on a cancelled die. Hmm...... Chris
For me he only thing that comes up for quarters struck on canceled die would be in the 1800s quarters. That's all I find
Cool coins @Tyler Graton! The only errors I have are a clip and a doubled die. I used to have a nickel clip but I thought it was PMD and I needed the money! Boy do I feel stupid! I will see if I can find them.
ha I have a disc clipped dime from 1997. Yeah there aren't many keepable ones out there. What's your doubled die?
