gouge in state quarter by mint mark. nickel with two raised chin dimples. and nickel with missing E on E PLURIBUS UNUM. any info would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!
The nickel looks like a weak strike. That's not an error, just a poorly struck nickel. The quarter appears to have damage after the strike. I don't think that gauge was caused by the minting nor that the planket looked like that before striking. Agreed, no errors here.
My guess is that the nickel is a "grease filled die" - the part where the E goes was filled with grease, causing it to be mostly missing. It's an error in the sense that it was not intended, but they are very, very common and not considered an "error" for collector purposes. Not sure about the chin dimples, but it's nothing to get excited about. The quarter is Post-mint damage. Joe
Agree on the grease filled die statement, this kind of "error" occurs regularly. The rest of the nickel damage is post production, not flaws or errors in the design of striking. Same for the quarter. Very nice pictures, and congrats on actually looking at the coins in your change! keep looking a real error might be next
