?

I'm wondering if this is a error coin or just worn and smashed. The letters and numbers are thick

    No.. Not an Error Coin
Looks like a Dryer coin. Spinning and heat distorted the image. (Mushiness)

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

Can you post a photo of the reverse, too, please?

What is with all the new comers posting old worn coins thinking that the letters/numbers are thick so it must be an error. Seems like there are 10 a day. Did a new youtube video come out? :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::D

It's from being old, worn & smashed down from use. Copper is fairly soft as metals go, so they will flatten out. Stay off youtube (for coins, anyway).

At least one of the classes of Doubled dies, I believe it is distorted hub doubling, does not show the typical notching of serifs etc that are the normal hallmark of a doubled die. Instead it manifests itself as a thickening of design elements/lettering.

Yeah, I get that. But the number of new posts by newbies whose coins show extreme wear is preposterous. There aren't that many cents that fall under that category. The one posted above is typical.

The image is overexposed. The bright light makes it impossible to see anything clearly.

Yes but many of the doubled die sites show coins and talk about "extra thickness" especially on hte recent single squeeze doubled dies. The newbies key on that "extra thickness" and the letters on their worn coin look "extra thick" and they jump to the conclusion that "they must have an error!" and come here and post their worn out coin.
