I found this penny in my copper penny collection and noticed part of Abe is missing... is this an error coin and what’s it worth if so?
You can keep whatever you want. In my 36 years of collecting mint errors I have many minor issues that I have kept just because I enjoy them. Overpolished Dies, Misaligned Die strikes, plating bubbles.. No premiums but I like them. Others just toss them back into circulation.
I say Greaser. Compacted grease used to wipe the Die during the striking of the planchets hardens in the incused areas of the lettering in the Die and does not allow the letters to form properly. Common issue. No premium niether.
It's struck through grease or debris but they are called greasers. It happens at the Mint but it's so common that they are not considered errors even though they are. It takes a really good one to be called a mint error.
