This is obviously a penny...or supposed to be a penny! Is this an error? Or maybe ran over by a train?? Chemical damage? It's the same on both sides, except for the outline of Lincoln's head on one side. Weighs 2.4 g. Any help on this is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

    Just some terrible damage.

It looks like it may have been scraped against concrete a couple times :dead:
Sorry, but its 100% not a mint error.

Here is a penny that I put on the train track in the 50's. They get big and flat. Train Penny.jpg

My coin is normal size, so thanks so much for letting me know... That would've been my first instinct!

You can find these in various condition in parking lots. Run over by cars and scrape up galore.

I'm new at this, so I appreciate ANY help you all can give! This is a 1999 penny with what seems to be a cud error? Maybe more than one error, there seems to be like a popped bubble!?

Everything you see on the reverse of the cent
is damage - rim, fields, above and in the Memorial,
    and so on.

There is no error on this coin.

that's "popped bubble" is a prime identifier of the 8 micron thin copper plated Zinc core cent from 1982 and onwards.

A horrible combination of a more reactive core metal, than the surface. It's like when your car starts to rust, the paint start to bubble on top.
you'll see a lot of what are called "zincolns" having horrible surface irregularities and damage.

    it's still worth 1 cent.
The same value as when it first came fresh from the mint!!

Haha we’re happy to help :)

In the future, create a new thread for every coin you have a question about. This is the conventional way of posting and you will most likely get more replies.

By the way, a real ‘cud’ error would look like an extra blob of metal on the rim of the coin. Here’s a nickel I found in pocket change for reference.
