I've got a coin that was slabbed by NGC. It was NOT a submission of mine. I think their attribution is wrong. Can I resubmit the coin to them and get the attribution corrected for free? But will that cost me S&H? Of course this assumes I have ID'ed it correctly. One step at a time. Once I get the answers to those two questions I'll post some images and see if my analysis is correct.
I don't claim to know the answers for sure, but I think they'd re-attribute for free if they admit they were wrong, however I don't think you're going to get them to pay for the shipping.
I would tend to think that if you were the original submitter, you could get them to "fix" the attribution for free as a mechanical error. As a new submitter (or resubmitter) I would tend to think that you'd be responsible for paying the full fee for a Variety Plus submission. However, the absolute best advice I can give you is to give NGC a call and ask. Maybe they will fix it and help you out on costs in the name of having their attribution corrected (assuming it is incorrect.)
If they called it something it was not, they might fix it for free. If it is an error, and they did not say it was, it is probably because the submitter didn't ask (pay) for them to. I just submitted 3 error coins that were already graded, but I cherrypicked the errors, so paid for them to add those to them.
Go to the NGC chat boards and ask them. They have always answered any questions I've had very promptly.
I mistakenly thought he was talking about an error coin. It is this one, and yes, it appears ngc goofed: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/error-in-attribution-on-braided-hair-large-cents.300955/
Yes, you got the correct thread for the images. I created a new thread rather than tack the images onto this one because it was a different facet.
Well considering according to their guarantee it does not cover attributions. They may fix it for free, but if the change results in a drop in value they don't have to compensate you.
They do not guarantee their attribution, however I have had Heritage accept a return based on mis-attribution of a late date large cent. I think in this case they would call that a typo, which again is not covered in their warranty. If I were you, I would call and ask, never hurts right.
