I came across this 1863 Indian Head Cent and it looks like no other that I've seen. Can anyone help me ID it? Is it an error, or just another version for that year. I couldn't find out anything on my own so far. The coin has been dipped to try and increase the details. THe reverse was pretty corroded but notice the lack of a shield.

Can you read the legends on the obverse? It appears to have a ring where the legends should be. Can you post new photos of obverse from a straight up and down position?

Is the edge reeded or flat?

The edge is flat. There is no legend. It is a raised ring with "stars" similar to what is on a Large cent (the "stars" that is not the raised portion). Also notice that were the raised part ends on each side of the date is like a ribbon cut. Hope the attached pic is better.

Can you make out what is on the ribbon on Liberty's head?

Okay, I think that I have found your coin.

It appears to be a civil war token. Not a US Indian Cent.
