    Here's what a master engraver can produce on a coin;

    On the reverse has been engraved a portrait of virtually photographic quality, as well as Masonic symbols of the owners titles and degrees, i.e. Past Master, Scottish Rite Mason and York Rite Mason. The distinguished looking gentleman was the Grand Master of New York in 1885, J. Edward Simmons (GM 1883-1885)

    Now imagine if the coin was originally an 1884-CC Dollar....

    Philly I would think.

    Great artisan who engraved the 1884! but being from New York the coin must likely was a Philly? but we will never know

    That is very cool, must have taken a lot of talent.

    I wonder if there die markers present on the obverse to determine where the coin was minted. It might be a stretch, but could possibly be done.
